ONE doesn't automatically mention ice-cream and property in the same breath, but it certainly applies to the recent Ballito fun family event, The Ice Cream Run, organised by Gauteng-based Glow 4 Events.
Held from about 8am to noon on December 23 at Ballito's Sugar Rush Park, the colourful event featured Dormehl Phalane Property Group (DPPG) as a sponsor this year.
In addition, some 20 or so DPPG members competed in the 5km run, among them Owen Dormehl who, with Tau 'Daniel' Phalane, heads the property group.
"We were so happy to have Dormehl Phalane Property Group on board, and it was great to see them not only sponsoring the T-shirts for run participants but also bringing along a team to join in the fun,' says Glow 4 Events spokesman Adrian Broom.
The run was first held a few weeks ago at Rietvlei, south of Johannesburg, and attracted some 600 participants there. It drew an estimated 350 people, aged between six and 60-plus, in Ballito.
There was much excitement for all as the event, at which Virgin Active staff provided advice and a warm-up, featured a wide variety of activities that showcased how living a balanced lifestyle can also be fun.
What made this run most unique was that instead of water stops, participants collected three different, popular ice-creams at demarcated pitstops, as well as negotiating hurdles such as a giant slide and a water slide, explains Broom.
Owen Dormehl was so impressed with the event that he has promised sponsorship for the event going forward, as the run is planned to be an annual event.
The event also advertised sideline attractions such as an Ice Cream Eating Contest and other competitions, wellness activities, yoga, live music, ice cream characters and exhibitors.
"We are planning our next event at the beginning of March, 2019, which will be a charity fund-raiser in Johannesburg involving run participants being spattered with glow paint and passing through various, fun 'glow zones'. A similar Durban event is also planned, but dates have still to be decided for that," says Broom.
